COOLEY 2004 HITS THE SHELVES

by Helen Mayne

Well known videographer Ian Linton of Garvagh has just launched his latest production - 'Cooley 2004' Irelands biggest working festival, a video and DVD capturing the sights, sounds and atmosphere of the Cooley festival.

Every other year on the August bank holiday Sunday the small area of Cooley is converged upon by thousands of people wanting to enjoy the best of all things vintage as well as the many other attractions laid on by the organising committee.

With so much to see and do, one day is just not long enough to take it all in, so the video and DVD are the ideal way to enjoy all the goings on of the festival.

As has been the case for the past few Cooley festivals, the dark clouds disappeared and the rain stayed away for the festival day. Glorious sunshine helped to keep spirits high as spectators and exhibitors enjoyed the friendship and welcome, customary of the Cooley folk.

With Ian Linton behind the camera and George Dallas at the microphone, the video does not only capture the sights and sounds of the event but also contains interesting interviews which enlighten the viewer about the background information to many of the machines on show and in action.

Many people wondered how the 2004 Cooley festival could ever live up to that magical day in 2002 when the world record for pre 1970 working tractors in one field was well and truly broken. They need not have worried however, as John Hanlon and his most capable committee put on a tremendous show in 2004. A special feature of pre-1930 working tractors made a spectacular sight, with some weird and wonderful machines to be seen in action. Ian Linton has captured some footage whilst aboard one of these primitive machines - allowing viewers to get right into the midst of the action.

From steam ploughing to amusements, horses cutting crops to milking cows with a 200 year old machine, pre-1930's tractors at work to live music - all are featured in this superb production.

From filming to production in little over three weeks, this is sure to be the most recent vintage and general interest video or DVD on the shelves.

Video fans will know by their long track record the team of Linton and Dallas is sure to provide an interesting and informative show.
